Parking in Kutaisi: the city, the airport and the sights
After Tbilisi, parking in Kutaisi feels easy: the city is small and there's plenty of space even in season. There is a paid zone too, but it's cheap and stress-free. Here's the breakdown.
Parking in the centre
Central Kutaisi has municipal paid parking: pay by licence plate at a terminal, or buy a daily, weekly or monthly pass. But spaces are usually easy to find, and a little away from the central square and the White Bridge — in courtyards and side streets — you can park for free. Market days get busier around midday, so just move a block or two.
The old lanes can be narrow: don't block the road or courtyard entrances.
Kutaisi (Kopitnari) Airport
Kopitnari is the main hub for low-cost airlines, and many people start their Georgia trip here. The terminal has a paid car park: about 1 GEL per hour and around 7 GEL for 24 hours, with automatic barriers at the entrance. If you fly in and rent with us, we meet you right at the exit — no need to think about parking.
At Imereti's sights
The main spots near Kutaisi have organised car parks:
- Bagrati Cathedral — parking by the climb to the church.
- Gelati Monastery (UNESCO) — a car park at the entrance.
- Motsameta Monastery — a small lot, tight at weekends.
- Prometheus Cave and Sataplia — proper car parks, sometimes a small fee.
- Martvili and Okatse canyons (a bit further) — parking by the ticket office.
At weekends and in high season, arrive early: the lots at the popular monasteries and caves fill up by midday.
Tips
- Free doesn't mean "anywhere": don't park on lawns, pavements or under signs.
- In the paid zone, pay by plate at a terminal or in the app.
- On mountain roads to the monasteries, park only on level ground — handbrake on and in gear.
Kutaisi is a handy base for exploring Imereti by car: parking is rarely a problem, and Gelati, the canyons and the caves are easy to reach on your own.
