Navigation and Mobile Internet in Georgia: Which Maps Work and Where to Get a SIM
18.10.2026
Google Maps, Yandex or offline maps, where to buy a SIM card and what to do in the mountains without coverage.
You can manage without navigation only in central Tbilisi. For trips around the country you need a phone with data and maps downloaded in advance.
Which maps work
- Google Maps knows cities, sights, cafés and gas stations well and is convenient for routes and finding places.
- Yandex Maps / Navigator is popular with Russian-speaking travellers and shows roads and traffic in big cities.
- Offline maps (Organic Maps, Maps.me or an offline area in Google Maps) are a must in the mountains: coverage drops in Svaneti, Racha, Kazbegi and mountain Adjara.
Tip: before heading into the mountains, download the offline map of the region and save your route points. Ready-made routes with navigation points are in our routes section.
SIM card and data
- The main operators are Magti, Silknet and Cellfie. SIM cards are sold at airports and phone shops; you need your passport.
- Tourist packages with plenty of data are inexpensive; Magti usually has the best mountain coverage.
- eSIM is an option if your phone supports it.
- With Cartome you can add a SIM card with data to your rental for $10 — it will be waiting with the car.
Useful details
- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available in most of the fleet — see the specs on each car page.
- The emergency number is 112.
Pick a car with CarPlay and add a SIM card on the booking page.
